The obstructed rakta
or artava inside the uterus, assumes a rounded shape
enveloping rajovaha dhamanis, stays in uterus just
like the foetus and is known as Raktagulma.

Causes of its
presence |
|
Raktagulma develops
only in females and not in males because
- The woman possesses garbhasaya (uterus) and
has regular appearance of artava (menstrual
blood or ovum), which gets accumulated.
- It does not develop in young girls or aged
women.
this disease develops in active reproductive age
- neither to the young girls due to absences of
menarche
- nor to aged women due to menopause.

- Suppressing natural urge due to absence of
freedom
- Pregnancy of very short duration
- Immediately following abortion
- Fasting during rtukala
- Fear
- Use of dry dietetics
- Use of stambhaka and Lekhana drugs
- Yonidosa (Gynaecological disorders)
- Vata aggravating diet.

- Absence of desire and taste of food
- Indigestion
- Abnormal appetite and digestion
- Urine sensation after ingestion of food
- Vomiting during digestion of food
- Eructation
- Absence of urge for passing the flatus, urine
and stool or if urge is felt these are not
excreted
- Pain due to effect of vayu
- Distension of abdomen
- Sound and pain in bowels
- Upward movement of gases
- Anorexia
- Weakness
- Intolerance for satiating food.
