Fever in a pregnant woman is most troublesome as the foetus also suffers due to transfer of heat from mother to the
foetus.
|
Causes of fever
|
|
- Excessive hunger
- Exertion and massage
- Dryness
- Heat
- Retention of normal faeces
- Improper use of oleatives
- Sudorifics and fire (heat)
- Psychological strain
|
Treatment of fever before fourth month: |
|
- Fasting for one day, followed by usage of juices free from fat and salt.
- Use of pungent dietetics and drinks, sudorifics ( a drug which is used to induce
sweat) and exercise should be avoided.
- Intake of rice gruel.
- One should use moderate treatment after understanding the type of fever i.e. vataja, pittaja or kaphaja jwara and also severity or mildness of disease.
- Use of lekhana karma (the measures which make the body light) etc. should be done after considering properly the complications of disease, stamina and tolerance of the woman and duration of pregnancy.
- During fever of recent origin at the time of pregnancy (taruna jwara) massage with oil should not be given, because it can kill the foetus.
