The mother's milk vitiated by dosas, produces various types of abnormalities in the breast milk. Stanya means breast milk and Dushti means abnormality. Due to consumption of vitiated milk the child suffers from various physical disorders of the same dosa, by which the milk is vitiated.
Milking the baby should be stopped, till the woman recovers from
stanya-dushti.

Causes of Stanya-Dushti

- Indigestion
- Consumption of non-congenital, unfavourable and incompatible
food.
- Over-eating
- Excessive use of salty, sour, hot, ksara (alkaline) food
- Diseases of body and mind
- Staying awake at night
- Worrying unnecessarily
- Suppression of natural urges
- Attempt to excrete faeces
- Eating in excess, food made of jaggery, curd, fish, abhishyandi (moisture producing) articles etc.
- Sleeping immediately after a meal during daytime .
- Consumption of meat of wild animals or seafood
- Over use of wine
- Absence of exercise
- Trauma
- Anger
- Over use of purgatives
- Other diseases

- Thirst
- Constipation
- Oliguria
- Lethargy

Symptoms

According to the dosas the following symptoms can be seen in the child consuming
vitiated milk:
- Vataj
- Weak cry
- Scraggy
- Suppression or retention of urine and faeces
- Pittaj
- Excessive perspiration
- Diarrhoea
- Kamala (jaundice)
- Excessive thirst
- Fever
- Kaphaj
- Excessive salivation
- Feels sleepy
- Numbness
- Swelling of face
- Redness of eyes
- Vomiting
