Etiology |
|
Consumption of excessive hot eatables
and drinks, use of excessive medicines for cleansing
purposes (having purgation with mild dose) by women of
mrdu kostha and having received oleation and sudation,
are some of the causes of all menstrual disorders.

Artava-ksaya |
|
- Deficiency or loss of artava, the menstruation
does not appear in its appropriate time or is
delayed (inter-menstrual period is prolonged), is
scanty and does not last for three days.
- There is also pain in vagina.
Treatment
- The artava- ksaya should be treated by the use
of purifying measures and agneya (hot) substances

Nastartava or anartava |
|
- The dosas obstruct the passage or orifices of
channels carrying artava (artava- vaha srotasa),
thus artava is destroyed.
- Though artava is not finished completely,
however, it is not discharged monthly. This
condition is the description of amerorrhoea caused
by endometrial abnormalities.

increase in amount of artava). |

- The condition is characterized with body ache,
excessive bleeding during menstruation and foul
smell in menstrual blood.
- This artava- vrddhi refers to increase in amount
of artava and upadhatu (ovarian hormones), this is
memo-metrorrhagia due to hyper-estrogenic
condition.

Principles of
treatment |
|
- Cleansing: For cleansing of artava or relief
from these disorders, after applying oleation and
sudation; emetics and purgatives etc. all five
cleansing measures should be used; after this
uttara- basti (uterine or vaginal instillation)
should be given repeatedly.
- Local treatment: To the woman suffering from
vataja, pittaja, kaphaja and raktaja artavadusti,
after use of oleation etc. measures, vaginal
pastes, tampons etc. capable of suppressing the
vitiated dosas prescribed under yoni- rogas should
be given.
- Local irrigation: Beneficial diet and vaginal
irrigation with the decoction of drugs capable of
suppressing vata etc. dosas should be prescribed.
- Rasayana and vajikaran: In the menstrual
disorders caused by single dosa, the oleation and
sudation etc. prescribed for disorders of sukra
(semen) rasayana and vajikarana drugs and drugs
prescribed for urinary disorders should be used.
- Other medication: In the menstrual disorders due
to use of sternutatory drugs by a menstruating
woman. Milk medicated with jivaniya group of drugs
should be prescribed. Purgation is beneficial.
