|
Gandusha and Kavala are both variants of gargling:
- Gandusha is filling the mouth to three fourth its capacity with liquid without allowing its movement inside and holding the liquid for three kala (one kala is the time taken to rotate one's finger around one's own knee). One should hold the fluid in the mouth till the nose and eyes start watering. The main function of gandusha is to provide strength to the gums, buccal cavity, eyes and nose.
- Kavalagraha is filling the mouth to half its capacity with liquid to make it move briskly inside and spitting out quickly. It exerts a soothing and cleansing action on the mouth.
