Dashvidha pariksha or the tenfold examination consists of the examination of the prakruti (body constitution), vikruti (pathological state), sara (tissue vitality), samhanana (physical build), pramana (body measurement), satmya (adaptability), sattva (psychic constitution), ahara shakti (digestive capacity), vyayama shakti (capacity for exercise) and vaya (age).
The psychic constitution of a person is one of the important factors of the tenfold examination which helps in diagnosing a disease.
- The mind is called the psychic element as it is the controller of the body in contact with the soul.
- Depending on the degree of strength, Sattva is of three kinds i.e. high, moderate and low.
The psyche has three attributes: sattva, rajas and
tamas. Those people who have dominance of sattva guna, have the greatest freedom from diseases.
Tamasic people are more prone to diseases including cancer. Their diseases tend to be deep seated, obstinate and difficult to treat.
In Rajasic people, disease symptoms are frequently acute, and recovery is possible with the right remedial measures.
