Dashvidha pariksha or the tenfold examination consists of the examination of the prakruti (body constitution), vikruti (pathological state), sara (tissue vitality), samhanana (physical build), pramana (body measurement), satmya (adaptability), sattva (psychic constitution), ahara shakti (digestive capacity), vyayama shakti (capacity for exercise) and vaya (age).
There are eight body elements, viz. skin, blood, flesh, fat, bone, marrow, semen and psychic. The features of these tissue elements are examined in their respective sites.
- If the skin is smooth, soft, clear, thin and covered with short- deep-rooted hairs and full of lustre, then it indicates longevity.
- If the blood is in perfect tone, then the ears, eyes, mouth, tongue, nose, lips, hands, soles of the feet, nails, forehead, genitalia etc. are reddish and full of
lustre.
- If the flesh is in perfect tone, then forehead, eyes, cheeks, jaws, shoulders, chest and joints of the body will indicate patient's stability and longevity.
- If the fat is in perfect tone, then the complexion, voice, eyes, hair, teeth, lips are in proper order, which indicate delicate nature.
- If the elements of supporting tissue i.e. bones are in perfect tone, the individual has stout heels, ankles, knees, forearms, collar bones etc. Such persons are enthusiastic and active and lead a long life.
- If the marrow is in perfect tone, then the person is soft, strong, fair in complexion and possess stout, long and rounded joints and live a long life.
- If the element of semen is in perfect tone, then the person is gentle and possess gentle light in his cheerful eyes. He possess large hips. Such persons are coveted source of enjoyment for woman. Those in whom the psychic element is in perfect tone; they possess good memory, wisdom, intelligence and character.
