This is an important 'Pathya' or dietetic liquid preparation made from rice. It is the supernatent liquid portion of a gruel, prepared by cooking 1 part of broken rice with 14 parts of water. This should be administered with the powders of 'Sunthi [ginger] and
Saindhava lavana [salt].

Properties

- Manda is Agnidipaka appetizer], Vatanulomaka [directs vata to its normal downward direction], and Sweda
janaka [induces perspiration]
- It could be advised for those who are under Langhana
[dieting], Virechana [laxative therapy] and Snehana [oleation therapy] types of treatment.
- As it is light for digestion and increases digestive power, it nourishes the body very quickly.

Types

- Vatya manda : It is gruel prepared out of 1 part of coarse powder of roasted yava
dhanya [barley] and 14 parts of water. It can be administered by adding sugar or salt and little Sunthi Powder.

- Laja Manda [rice preparation] :A thin gruel prepared our of Laja (Parched rice) or roasted rice is called as Laja
manda.
Properties :
- If laja manda is administered with Pippali and Sunthi it acts as Dipaka, Pacaka, Vatanulomaka and
Hrdya.
- It is Sramanasaka and good for Ksina Swara persons. It cures Trsna, Daha, Murccha, Atisara. It helps to maintain normalcy in dhatus( Dhatu Samyakaraha
Sivaha).
- It is a good diet for children, aged persons, ladies and such other delicate individuals.
