Suitable seasons for Cauterization
|
|
All the seasons except autumn and summer. Even in these two seasons, during emergency states agreeable only to cautery, it may be used after taking appropriate counter-measures.

Specific sites for Cauterization
|
|
Cauterization should be done for the diseases of
- The head
- In glaucoma
- On the eyebrows
- Frontal and temporal areas;
Whereas in the diseases of the eyelids, it should be done at the roots of the eyelashes after protecting the eyeball with a wet cloth.

Indications of cauterization
|
|
Cauterization should be applied :
- When vitiated vayu has afflicted the skin, muscles, vessels, ligaments, joints and bones and is associated with severe pain;
- In ulcers with excessive granulations
- Indurated tissues
- Anaesthetic patches
- In lymph nodes,
- Piles,
- Tumours,
- Fistula-in-ano,
- Lymphadenitis,
- Elephantiasis,
- Warts,
- Pigmented moles,
- Inguino-scrotal hernias,
- Diseases of joints and vessels
- In excision and other surgical procedures
- Tracks of sinuses and
- In cases of excessive bleeding.

Pre-cautery assessment

The surgeon should apply cautery after thorough examination of
:
- The shape of the lesion,
- The related vital parts of the body,
- Strength of the patient, the disease and the season.

Preparation of the patient
|
|
In all diseases, during all seasons, cautery should be done
only after feeding the patient with slimy diet. Slimy diet is a mucilaginous, light, soft and nourishing diet, to be given prior to minor operations.
On an empty stomach in cases of :
- Mal-presentation,
- Calculus disease,
- Fistula-in-ano,
- Abdominal diseases
- Piles and
- Diseases of the oral cavity.
