The entire course of surgical treatment is divided into three stages:

  • Purva Karma (Pre-Operative measures), 

  • Pradhana-Karma (Operative procedures), and 

  • Pascat-Karma (Post-Operative care). 

Pradhan Karma - Operative procedures
The following 8 main surgical procedures should be carried out as per the requirement of the surgical treatment of the disease. They are:
  • Excision,
  • incision, 
  • scraping,
  • puncturing,
  • probing,
  • extraction, 
  • drainage and 
  • suturing.    
Qualities of a surgeon
  • Boldness, 
  • swiftness in action, 
  • sharpness of his instruments, 
  • no sweating or trembling of hands and 
  • confidence
