The entire
course of surgical treatment is divided into three stages:
-
Purva Karma
(Pre-Operative measures),
-
Pradhana-Karma
(Operative procedures), and
-
Pascat-Karma
(Post-operative care).

Paschat karma -
Post-operative care |
|
After providing the protective measures, the patient should be taken to the ward
for post-operative instructions.
|
General post-operative surgical procedure
|
|
- After suturing is complete, paste of medicinal herbs should be applied on
wound.
- The wound is cleansed with cold infusion of herbs, which are
predominant in Kashaya Rasa or having astringent effect to prevent excessive bleeding.
- After that wound is bandaged with a clean cloth after patting sterile cotton, and medical smoke is given locally to the wound with herbs like gum
guggul, rasna, bark, margosa tree etc.
- The wound should be opened for cleansing only on the third day.
- After applying medicinal paste, it should be bandaged
again.
- The patient should be kept in a clean, hygienic nursing home till the wound is entirely healed.
Certain Ethics In Emergency Surgery indicate that during emergency cases, the doctor should not adhere to the routine methods of treatment and instead he should take remedial measures quickly.
