After proper cauterization
|
|
Honey and ghrta should be anointed over the wound.
|
Adequate cauterization is characterized by
|
|
- Relief from the disease,
- Feeling of lightness of the body,
- Cessation of discharge.
|
Inadequate cauterization produces
|
|
- Pricking sensation,
- Itching,
- Sluggishness and
- Exacerbation of the disease.
|
Criteria of successful cauterization
|
|
- When the skin is cauterized, there occurs :
- Burning is attended with a crackling sound,
- Bad odour and
- Contraction of the skin.
- When muscles are cauterized, there occurs :
- A pigeon (ash colour) like discolouration of the part,
- Mild inflammation
- Pain and
- The lesion gets dried up and shriveled.
- When the ligaments and the vessels are cauterized there occurs
:
- Black discolouration,
- Swelling of the lesion and
- A cessation of discharge including that of blood.
- When the bones and the joints are cauterized there occurs
:
- Dryness,
- Redness,
- Hardness,
- Fixity of the lesion.

Contraindications of cauterization
|
|
Cautery should not be applied to those having
- Paittika constitution,
- Internal bleeding,
- Ruptured viscera,
- Foreign body that has not been extracted,
- In people having weak constitution,
- In people who are very young, very old, or timid,
- In those having multiple lesions and (in all those) in whom the fomentation treatment is contraindicated.

Effects of excessive cauterization
|
|
When the cauterization is done in excess, it causes all the signs and symptoms of either superficial or deep burns.
It should then be treated with
- Cold treatment i.e. either cold water, or ice.
- The paste of medicinal herbs like vetiver grass, sandalwood, powder of bark of Lodhra tree, liquorice powder etc. is applied along with cool Ghrta (saturated fat).
