Formulations for vitalizers
The vitalizers (rasayanas) are so called because they help to replenish the vital fluids of the body. Chyavanaprasha, Pippali rasayana, Triphala rasayana and Shilajita rasayana are a few such rasayanas. In addition to these, the Achara rasayana also holds an important place in geriatrics.

Pippali rasayana
A person desirous of rasayana guna (rejuvenation) should consume pippali five, eight, seven or ten in number added with honey and ghee daily for one year.

Preparation and dosage
  • Take five, seven, eight or ten long peppers a day in conjunction with honey and ghee for a period of one year. A seeker after the benefits of vitalization who wishes to get rid of cough, consumption, dyspnea, hiccup, throat infections, piles, assimilation disorders, anemia, irregular fever, should take a course of long pepper impregnated with the alkali prepared of Bengal kino and fried in ghee. They should be taken in conjunction with honey, three in the morning, three before the mid-day meal and three after.
  • Commencing with ten in number, increase by ten on each succeeding day for ten days and consume with milk. It should be decreased in the same manner (reducing by ten each day). After it gets digested, boiled sastika rice should be consumed with milk and ghee. This Sahastra pippali recipe is rasayana (rejuvenator). Strong persons can take it in the form of a paste while the weak can take it in the form of cold infusion considering the condition of the doshas and the diseases.
