             Dhatus or the seven tissue elements are the pillars of the body. They promote the growth of the body and support the body as well as the mind. Rakta dhatu is one of them.
 
Origin 
              Blood originates from raktadhara kala, the endothelial layer of capillaries. Raktadhara kala, liver and spleen in foetal life and bone marrow in postnatal life are the main sites of formation of rakta.
Rakta is derived from the essential nutrients in rasa (plasma).
 
Synonyms of rakta
Rudhira, asruk, lohitam, asram, kshatajam and shonitam. 
  • Words rakta, rudhira, lohita and shonita indicate red colour. 
  • Asram and asruk signify continuous movement or circulation and kshatajam indicates its appearance from kshata i.e. wounds.
