Dhatus or the seven tissue elements are the pillars of the body. They promote the growth of the body and support the body as well as the mind. Majja dhatu is one of them.
  • Majja represents tissue within and enclosed by bones. The nervous tissue i.e. brain and spinal cord enclosed by cranial cavity and spinal canal, as well as bone marrow in the long and short bone both, represent majja.
  • In long bone, marrow is fatty, whereas in short or all small bones, marrow is reddish due to mixture of connective fatty tissue with blood generating tissue.
  • Bone marrow derives its nutrition from the same vessels, which supply nutrition to bones.
  • Majja and pitta have a common origin in foetal life.
  • Nervous tissue and fatty tissue both originate from medodhara kala.
