1.Mantra
  • This is a collection of words from the holy texts which when uttered in a proper sequence and number, helps in gaining ultimate power.
  • If a sage comes and utters these mantras with blowing air from his mouth over a poisoned person, he gets cured.

2. Arishta - Bandhan (Ligature)
  • It is of two types: to tie with rope etc., and to tie with mantras.
  • The Arishta should be tied four fingers above the area to which the poison has reached.
  • The Arishta should not be too loose or tight.
  • Arishta can be made from anything like, cloth, bark of a tree, rubber tube, silk thread, etc. It should be tied immediately after the person has been poisoned.

3. Utkartan (Incision)
  • If the bite mark is on the vital spots or very near to it, then care should be taken in doing the incision.

4. Nishpidan (Pressing or compression)
  • After taking incision over the bitten region, the surrounding part should be squeezed to expel out the poison.

5. Chooshan (Suction)
  • After taking incision over the bitten region, the vitiated blood should be removed by suction.
  • This procedure should be carried out by a trained person.

6. Agni karma/Dah karma (Cauterization)
  • After incision and suction, the bitten region should be cauterized.
  • The procedure should be done by rods made of gold or iron or with the stalks of the Pipal leaves.
  • The only exception for this procedure is the bite of the Mandali Snake.
  • This method should not be carried out on the vital region.

7. Parishechan (To sprinkle or irrigate)
  • To prevent a person from collapsing, cold water is sprinkled over the face.

8. Avgahan (Cold treatment)
  • The patient should be given a cold water bath or a towel wet with cold water should be wrapped around the patient. Ice bags can also be kept over the patient.

9. Rakta Mokshana (Bloodletting)
  • To save the life of the patient, the vitiated blood is let out through this process.

10. Vamana (Therapeutic emesis)
  • Elimination of doshas through mouth by vomiting is called Vamana. This is done to expel the unabsorbed poison out of the body.

11. Virechana (Therapeutic purgation)
  • Elimination of vitiated doshas through rectum is called Virechana. It is given to the patient who has burning sensation, pain and flatulence of the abdomen, obstruction of urine and whose constitution is of the pitta type.

12. Updhana (Placing of medicine on forehead)
  • In a patient, if the poison has already reached the head, an incision resembling the legs of the cock is made over the head and after blood letting from this portion, a paste of Satla is kept.
  • Hence here, the incision like the leg of the cock is called Upadhana on which the paste of Satla is kept.
  • After Updhana, Pradhamana (Blowing medicine from the tube) is carried out.
  • In this procedure, the medicine is kept in an open tube. One end of this tube is kept above the incision and through the other end, air is blown due to which the medicine directly reaches the wound.
