The Urdvajatrugath diseases (diseases affecting the parts above the shoulders) i.e. the diseases mentioned in shalakya tantra are classified on various bases. The basic classification is done according to the diseases affecting specific parts like eyes, ear, nose, oral cavity and head. Some of the diseases require surgical treatment and some can be treated with oral and local medication, hence diseases are classified as surgical and non-surgical diseases also.
It is very essential to classify these diseases and arrange them in specific groups, as it enables to understand and evaluate the kind of treatment required.
