Healthy and perfect  body is the one, which is well proportionate in terms of size and shape. In female body, the breasts play a vital role in shaping up of body. But the desires of several women is not fulfilled as they possess either smaller size breasts or very large one's.

In today's world however, this constraint can be ruled out as the size and contour of  the breasts can be altered using modern plastic  reconstructive technique called Mammoplasty.

The overdeveloped  breasts can be transformed into normal shape using reduction Mammoplasty. In this process  breast reduction is carried out by reducing breasts tissues. In some cases it is done by lifting the glands, if it droops and this process is called Mastropexy. The duration of the operation is about 2 to 3 hours and is performed under anaesthesia. The short narrow scars of operation are concealed accurately. This modern cosmetic surgery is expensive but the desired size of the breasts can be achieved.

The feeding capacity of  the breasts is not altered, provided, a large amount of tissue is not operated on.

Various research conducted in this field eliminate, any possibility of breast reduction leading to breast cancer.

Causes for enlarged breasts

1) Over-development in puberty: During puberty the breasts grow  very fast due to the female hormones. In some cases it may develop to pathologically very large size.

2) Pregnancy:
The breasts grow to significantly larger size during  three to four months of pregnancy. Due to the stretching of the skin they droop, but they can be  reversed to their original size.

3) Obesity: The over-developed breasts is very common in obese woman. This is termed as "Fatty Macromastia". The size of breasts varies according to the size of the patient. During menopause the gland-fat equation varies and size and shape of breasts alters, this is because glands are largely replaced by fat.

The problems experienced by patients  with abnormal, enlarged breasts are:

  • Neck  pain and backache due to the strain on cervical and thoracic spine, occurring due to the weight of the breasts.
  • During the menstrual period the brassiere may seem a painful embodiment.
  • To get clothes with perfect fitting too, becomes a hard task.
  • The lower part of the breasts develop problems due to the drooping of the breasts.
  • Swift movement and hardships are restricted due to the enlargement of the breasts.
  • Neck and nerve plexus always experience a pressure of the bra due to the heaviness of the breasts.
