A balanced diet comprising of vitamins, minerals and proteins in the proportionate quantity is the key to a healthy skin. Eating habits have a direct effect on health of the skin and hence it is utmost important that balanced diet is consumed.
 
Vitamin A
  • The smoothness of skin depends on this vitamin.
  • It is a primary skin health vitamin and one of the few stored by the body.
  • It helps to make the skin satin smooth and is considered as a 'glamour vitamin'.

Deficiency

  • Development of  pimples and skin turns  excessively dry.
  • Overdose is harmful as it results in excessive dryness and roughness of the skin. Soreness of the lips is also observed.
     
Vitamin B

This is also an important vitamin essential for the health of skin.

Deficiency
Pimpled and oily skin (vitamin B6 deficiency) or prematurely aged or dry skin (panthotenic acid and niacin deficiency).
 

Vitamin C
  • It is a miracle worker.
  • It destroys poison, bacteria, virus, infection, prevents fatigue and allergies builds healthy blood vessels, teeth, tissue and bones.
  • It is very important for a healthy skin.

Vitamin D
Essential  for bone formation, this vitamin  is produced by the skin itself. 
 
Vitamin E
  • Ageing of body cells is  prevented by this vitamin.
  • It also supports blood circulation.
  • Good blood circulation is a must for healthy skin.

Adding the meal time, one needs to consume at least  six to eight glasses of water daily.
 

Minerals
  • Minerals essential for health of skin are calcium, phosphorus, iron, iodine, silicon and magnesium.
  • They help to resist illness and retard  old age. 
  • The blood vessels in the skin gets dilated due to  coffee and alcohol and cause redness in the skin.
  • Initially these effects are temporary but prolonged use may result in permanent widening of the blood vessels.
  • Cigarette smoking is very hazardous for the health of the skin.
