Useful Wastes:

The two main useful wastes are Cow dung and Press mud. Cow dung is utilised for producing biogas and the used dung slurry is reused as manure. Press mud on the other hand is a waste obtained during the manufacture of cane sugar and is a valuable manure used in dry lands as it conserves the moisture and releases plant nutrients.

Recycling
Recycling is utilizing wastes as raw materials in the manufacturing of new products. Wallboard, organic fertilizer and cellulose plastics are some end products of recycling. Recycling has two distinct advantages:

  • Recycling conserves existing natural resources. For instance recovery of 1 tonne of paper saves 17 trees from the axe, and are the virgin sources of paper.

  • Sufficient reduction in the volume of waste.
