Chemicals and other substances used to control pests are termed as pesticides. They protect crops against pests but in the process affect man and livestock. Today, more than a thousand pesticides are being used throughout by farmers, gardeners, foresters and in homes, industries, go- downs and shops. 

Basically, these pesticides are used to protect plants against pests and diseases and to treat seeds and though they are useful to mankind, they have led to a great extent of environmental problems. 

• Selective and safe chemicals should be used.
• Farmers should try to avoid the use of pesticides.
• Plant based pesticides such as neem derivatives should be used.
• New parasites and predators should be invented to fight against pests.
• More and more inventions and innovations should be made on biodegradable pesticides.
• More efficient mechanical devices should be made.
• Last but not least, such crops should be developed that are resistant to pests.
