A low down on the care to be taken to get your hands back in shape:
  • Soak your hands in warm olive oil into which one capsule of vitamin E has been pricked, every night before going to bed.

  • Take out your hands after ten minutes, massage well, not forgetting your nails. (Throughout this week your hands should stay free from nail colour).

  • Other than strengthening your nails, calcium is also a natural tranquilizer. Take three tablets of calcium lactate with a glass of warm water. It will help you to sleep better.

  • Make the nail shinier and healthier by stepping up circulation in the fingertips. To achieve this massage some cream or oil into your hands and nails every morning.

  • Do some hand exercises. Whenever possible, throughout the day, keep massaging little blobs of Vaseline into your hands and nails. Step-up your water intake but avoid wetting your hands.

  • Make sure that the diet has all the nutrients for nails. Milk provides calcium and Vitamin D is provided by raw cabbage (Vitamins C & D) and sardines is one of the very few sources of iodine, which does wonders for circulation.

  • Wear washable cotton gloves while doing household chores. Avoid soaking nails and hands in water for prolonged periods. If you wear gloves, remember to keep taking them off every hour or so for a short while.

  • After chopping vegetables, rinse your hands in cool running water. Vegetable juices and lemon juice contain acids that do no good to your nails.

  • To rough and brittle cuticles, massage some Vaseline twice a day. If your nails are soft or prone to splitting, take gelatine dissolved in warm milk for a whole week. .

  • Strong detergent are very harmful for nails.

  • Always use a pencil for dialing numbers on the telephone, to avoid chipping and to make your nail colour last longer.

  • Keep the nails colour free occasionally. This is very essential for healthy nails. Ideally each time you remove your old nail-colour, nails should be allowed to breathe. However, if you are very particular to have nail-colour on all the time, leave your nails bare overnight. Buffing of nails assures their good health as it helps step up circulation.

  • For removing stains from fingers and nails applys the lemon juice.

  • Potato also does the same work as lemon juice. The difference being potato juice is milder in action whereas lemon juice acts faster.
