Aims and objectives of yogasana
  • The body and mind are made healthy and are trained in such a way that a necessary equilibrium is established in overall functions.
  • One is able to sit for hours together in a meditative asana without any discomfort or internal disturbances. It is a sort of reconditioning of psycho physiological mechanisms of the body as a whole.
  • Asanas are expected to counteract instability due to the disturbances in the tonic rhythm of the body. This tonic imbalance in muscles is removed by practising asanas. They tackle the root causes of the imbalance e.g. tremour, emotional conflicts, stress, tension, etc.
  • Asanas also overcome fickleness or instability in various functions of the body e.g. endocrinal secretions.
  • Asanas, thus mould our body and mind, making them stable and healthy in order to bear the spiritual forces arising in higher yogic practices.
  • Asanas bring about stability, health and suppleness, which are necessary to advance on the path of yoga.
  • Asanas overcome the internal disturbances like angamejayatva and thus prepare one for the higher aspects of yoga e.g. dhyana.
  • Asana brings about equilibrium in overall functions including ego, emotions, behaviour, and perception.
