Laws of Nature
The laws of nature include the laws of hygiene and moderation in every thing we do. It sounds very simple, but it is not so when put to practice. When we violate the laws of nature, we invite diseases, but obeying them preserves good health.

There are certain laws of nature which a person should know to understand Naturopathy. These are as follows:

The healing power within
There is a constant flow of the vital force in our body by which we adapt to the environment. Disease is caused when this life force cannot adapt to its surroundings. A certain amount of energy is required for this adaptation which cannot be provided by drugs and medicines.

To fight disease, the self-preserved force of the cells and organs of the body act together. When we receive an injury, our blood cells act with full force to form a new skin. These cells guard our skin.
Toxemia: the basic cause of diseases
Lungs, kidneys, bowels and skin are the waste eliminating organs of the body. Lungs breathe out carbon-di-oxide, kidneys throw out urine and salt, bowels expel the undigested faeces, and skin excretes waste products through sweat.

Overeating, eating junk food in large quantities, eating in absence of hunger with lack of exercise causes the channels to be clogged which results in congestion of  the respiratory organs like nose and throat, dryness or oiliness of skin,  fatty liver, constipated bowels and the re-absorption of toxins of excreta in the circulation.

Body and mind as one unit
The harmony must be maintained between environment and body-mind unit.

Without the influence of the mind, no injurious influx can enter the body. Bodily functions are influenced by emotions. Mental attitudes of a person determine the type of influence a disease will have over the body. Even ailments like common cold, stomach ache and headaches are triggered by emotions. Emotions like stress, anxiety, fear, jealousy and hatred influence our physical being and cause toxemia in the system.
Cleansing: External as well as internal
We take care of the external parts of our body and cleanse them as and when they get dirty, but do we cleanse our internal parts, especially the digestive organs? Internal cleansing is even more important as the ignorance of internal part of our body invites diseases.

Our brain also needs to be cleansed as under the influence of unhealthy emotions and thoughts, a mess of the hormones is created, contaminating the whole blood system.

Way of cleansing
The human body is like a complicated machine, but its cleansing is very easy unlike machinery due to its unique mechanism of auto cleaning. Only water and rest are required for this purpose.

Fasting and irrigation
Abstention from intake of food is called fasting and cleansing of the internal organs is called irrigation. More than 70 percent of our body has fluid including blood, urine, water, bile, etc. The blood accumulates a variety of toxins in the process of its circulation which need to be eliminated, otherwise the saturated toxins remain in the body. During fast, the morbid waste gets eliminated and our digestive system gets rest. It is the most scientific way of toning up the digestive organs.

The urge to pass urine is more during fast. One should drink only water or fluids during fast to tone up the tired muscles and tissues of the internal organs and to further aid elimination. Usually, there is a problem of bad breath with a foul odour during fast. It is due to the escape of accumulated foul gases. Fasting is preferred in almost all religions of the world for cleansing. The cleansing of the body (internal organs) is done by fasting and of mind through relaxation, meditation and prayers.

Considering our hectic schedules, these methods of cleansing may seem difficult but we can follow them occasionally. Surprisingly, our body can go without food for months. People who have experienced fasting will surely agree that there is a sense of well-being after the fast. This can also be experienced by those who have been extremely tired, and have abstained from food. At such times, a glass of water or any fruit juice is very refreshing.

Sometimes, we do not feel like eating. This is the natural warning from the organs of our body for rest. At such times, liquid diet should be taken for regaining lost energy. If this warning is ignored and the stomach is overloaded with food, the tiredness increases resulting in  ill health.

Although through fasting a part of toxins and increased intake of fluids is eliminated, the total cleansing of bowels is rather difficult. The unreachable parts of the bowels are cleaned through enema or internal bath. When the body is rid of toxins through these two procedures, even incurable diseases like cancer yield.

There are persons who have been fully cured from many incurable diseases by just fasting, enema and a diet consisting of plain water and fruit juices.

Fasting vs. starvation
Fasting is entirely different from starvation. The eaten food does not get absorbed fully. A part of it gets stored in the liver and tissues of the muscles. The accumulation of stored food in the tissues, unless utilized, goes on. During a fast, the body gets its supply of food from this store.

Starvation is the condition which occurs only when the storage of the food is exhausted and the body begins feeding on its own muscle tissues. But such condition does not arise immediately, not even for months at a stretch. Fasting is the healthy way to recover from almost any disease provided it is acceptable to us.
