After tenfold examination given by Acharya Charaka, the eightfold examination was given in a later text, Yogaratnagara to diagnose a disease. In this examination, there are eight types, which are more practical and useful.
- Nadi Pariksha (Pulse examination)
- Jivha Pariksha (Tongue examination)
- Shabda Pariksha (Voice examination)
- Sparsha Pariksha (Skin examination)
- Drka Pariksha (Eyes examination)
- Akruti Pariksha (General appearance examination)
- Mutra Pariksha (Urine examination)
- Mala Pariksha (Stool examination)
Though these examinations seem to be very much similar to the modern day tests, the Ayurvedic physician conducts these examinations keeping in mind the fundamental principles of Ayurveda and, therefore, these tests are different from the modern tests.
